Kobe Bryant‘s death on Sunday sent shock waves across the globe. He was one of the most accomplished basketball players in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Born in Philadelphia on August 23, 1978, Bryant played his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. His drive for basketball was birth after he saw his maternal nephew, John “Chubby” Cox play the game. He started playing when he was just three.
Making his debut after his entry from high school, Bryant, became a record-breaker. He was an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, a 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team, 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player winning five NBA championships.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, he ranked fourth on the league’s all-time regular-season scoring list. According to Forbes, he was worth $500 million in 2019.
Bryant died in a helicopter crash near Calabasas in Los Angeles. He was 41.
