The only English-speaking country in Central America, Belize was formerly part of the British empire.

An independent and sovereign country, Belize shares borders with two Spanish speaking countries, Mexico and Guatemala. Its estimated population of 408, 487 is the lowest population density in Central America.

In the past, the majority of its population was English or Creole, mostly by African descent, however, its Spanish speaking neighbours migrated due to wars.

At the moment, the main ethnic groups that make up the Caribbean nation include the Creoles, the Maya, the Mestizos and the Garifuna.

Belize has a diverse society composed of many cultures and languages that reflect its history.
