Over 1,129 people have been killed by the police in the United States as at December 29, 2017. A quarter of those killed is black. Even though black people are made up of only 13 percent of the population in America, they are three times likely to be killed by police compared to white people, according to the 2017 Police Violence Report.
This brings to the fore concerns that police violence is far from over, as young black men mostly between the ages of 15-34 are killed the most by law enforcement agencies.
As the world celebrates Day of Social Justice to promote justice and equity for all, Face2face Africa brings you a breakdown of some of the deadly attacks and injustices meted out to black people in the year 2017.
