African countries to visit if you want to escape Christmas

Christmas is the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ observed annually on December 25.

It has become an integral part of the African culture with several African communities having different ways of marking the season. Most people join in the celebrations, whatever their beliefs, with large-scale gatherings, fireworks and firecrackers, and other public festivities.

While it is largely becoming a secular holiday, it is traditionally a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, hence most people, due to religious differences, would not want to commemorate the season.

Interestingly, there are some African countries where Christmas is hardly observed – celebrations and other activities to mark the season are usually low-key.
