Days after parting ways with the Portland Trail Blazers following an 11-year stint with the NBA franchise, Damian Lillard has made another major change in his life as he has filed for divorce from his wife Kay’La.
Per Willamette Week, the new Milwaukee Bucks star filed the divorce in Clackamas County Circuit Court in Oregon. The 33-year-old, who shares three children with Kay’La, cites irreconcilable differences “that caused the irremediable breakdown of their marriage.”
The filing also implies that Lillard relocated to a $2.7 million home in West Linn, Oregon, in December 2022 while Kay’La continued to stay in their $7.7 million West Linn mansion. The filing also states that Lillian then moved to a Tualatin home last month.
Responding to the divorce filing in a statement, Lillard’s attorney told the news outlet that the basketball star and his family “ask that their privacy be respected during this sensitive time and presently have no further comment.”
Lillard and Kay’La started dating during their college years at Utah’s Weber State University. The pair tied the knot in September 2021. In a 2021 interview with Ebony, the 7x NBA All-Star opened up about how Kay’La “took care of” him when he was in college.
“She had the car, an apartment and bent over backwards for me. Kay’La accepted me with all my flaws as a young man,” Lillard said.
Lillard’s divorce filing comes after the Portland Trail Blazers traded him to the Milwaukee Bucks in a blockbuster 3-team swap. Forbes also recently named the 33-year-old as one of the world’s highest-paid athletes with earnings of $58.6 million. According to the business magazine, $42.6 million of this figure comes from his salary/winnings while $16 million comes from endorsements. Some of his endorsement deals include Adidas, AT&T, Gatorade, Moda Health, Oakley, Spalding, Tissot, and Toyota.
Lillard is also a rapper. He has released four studio albums under his rap name, Dame D.O.L.L.A. His track “Money Ball” was featured on the “NBA 2K20” soundtrack. Also, he’s a global ambassador for the Special Olympics.
