Snoop Dogg is venturing into the world of sports as an investor. The legendary rapper has announced that he is investing in boxing by partnering with Triller, an entertainment and music platform, to create a new boxing league called The Fight Club. This comes on the heels of his success in the commentary box during the fight between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.
A statement from Snoop Dogg and Triller said ‘The Fight Club’ will have multiple events per year with Snoop Dogg as the host and announcer. Also, the boxing league will have five to eight events per year which will also include musical performances.
“Up until this weekend, boxing was about the experience of one small group of elite individuals who attended the fight in person,” Ryan Kavanaugh, the co-founder of The Fight Club, said in a release.
“What we wanted to create with the Tyson vs. Jones event was an experience for all of the viewers at home, combining the highest-end production and lighting and a production quality never before brought to a fight. Today marks a paradigm shift as Triller and Proxima’s ‘The Fight Club’ dedicates itself to delivering top-notch immersive experiences in the comfort of your home.”
The release also said The Fight Club will be “connecting celebrities from various backgrounds, from breakout social media stars and professional athletes renowned for their athletic abilities to celebrated musicians and well-known actors and other stars willing to tackle a new venture and enter the world of boxing, as well as pro boxers making their way up.”
Triller promoted the Tyson vs Jones Jr. bout which sold over 1.2 million pay-per-view and would look to replicate the success by matching celebrities, musicians, social media stars and athletes from other sports inside the squared circle.
The boxing league, which was inspired by the success of the Tyson-Jones Jr card, comes with fights that will follow professional boxing rules and feature various sources of entertainment. Award-winning artistes will take the stage to deliver show-stopping performances, as well as celebrity guests and commentators, the statement said.
“I can tell you that the main fight — I can’t say it yet — but it’s gonna be something that everybody wants to see,” Kavanaugh said. “If you thought [Tyson vs. Jones Jr.] is big, I think that this would be even larger from a worldwide-appetite perspective and something that people want to see.”
Aside from being the celebrity host and announcer of the events, Snoop Dog will help select the fighters and musical acts, as well as advising the overall production of the series. Proxima, on the other hand, will be the production partner, promotor and marketing partner.
