The United States-based doughnut and coffee franchise, Krispy Kreme has opened its doors in Nigeria. “Krispy Kreme is offering 16 different varieties of doughnuts, as well as Nigerian blended coffee, with beans from Nigeria, Rwanda and Kenya brewed to be the perfect complement to our doughnuts. This shop in Nigeria will be the 34th country of operation for Krispy Kreme,” said Mr. Alexandra Trotter, Director of Quality Foods Africa (QFA), Nigeria Limited.
He continued, “Our mission is to do something which I think is quite rare. Sometimes people come to Nigeria and they get substandard stuff, but we are preparing the same quality of doughnuts that we prepare in the United States, the exact same quality is what we are preparing here in Nigeria. We have made significant investments of money and in people. We took some of the Nigerians abroad for training. We are ready for business in Nigeria.” [sic]
Krispy Kreme has one location so far in the Ikeja City Mall, Ikeja with 200 employees on its roster.
Another branch of the coffee and sweets shop is slated to open in Victoria Island in May. QFA was instrumental in the expansion of the doughnut chain in Nigeria.
Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937 by Vernon Rudolph. Headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, there are 1,004 locations in the United States with international locations in the United Kingdom, Turkey, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to name a few.
