Sometime last week, the bodies of Dr Marsha Edwards, her son Christopher Edwards II and her daughter Erin Edwards were found after an apparent murder-suicide at the family’s upscale townhouse in Cobb County, outside Atlanta, Georgia.
The bodies were found by the police after they responded to a welfare check request. Authorities believe that Dr Edwards shot and killed her young adult children, 20-year-old Erin and 24-year-old Christopher before she shot herself. The police are still trying to piece together what led to this tragedy.
Hours before the believed time of the tragedy, Dr Edwards made a final post on Instagram with the caption “I’ve had the best summer, first with Chris in Miami, and Erin in Italy. I could not ask for better children” under a photo of her smiling.
Dr Marsha Edwards owned MME Enterprises, a surgical and medical equipment supplier and was the former wife of the chairman of the Atlanta Housing Authority board, Dr Chris Edwards, who is also one of the most prominent neurosurgeons in Atlanta serving on the board of trustees of the Morehouse School of Medicine and was formerly on the board of Grady Memorial Hospital.
Though not much details on the case are available, it was reported that the welfare check by the police was requested by Dr Chris Edwards because he was concerned about the whereabouts of his son, coming to the house later during the day to meet the aftermath of the tragedy.
After the news broke, he has asked for him and his extended family and friends to be allowed privacy as they are still in a state of shock and grief over the incident.
Christopher, the older of the two children, was a digital content manager for the City of Atlanta in the Mayor’s Office of Entertainment. Marsha and Christopher had attended the National Association of Black Journalists annual conference in Miami three weeks ago. His younger sister, Erin, was a student of Boston University and had just finished an internship for NBC New York’s digital team this summer. Erin and Marsha went on a trip to Italy and even shared lots of photos on their social media accounts.
The mayor of Atlanta Keisha Lance Bottoms in a statement has extended her condolences to the family, saying how she had watched the Edwards’ children grow up into “beautiful, vibrant and brilliant young adults…”
The Police have not released any possible motive in the case and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
