Beyoncé donates $100,000 in scholarship funding to Detroit School for Digital Technology

Beyoncé has donated $100,000 in scholarship funding to the Detroit School for Digital Technology. The donation, made by the star’s BeyGood Foundation, was awarded to 10 students as part of her Renaissance Scholars program.

“We were delighted to spend the morning with the Detroit School for Digital Technology, and announce that @dsdttech will receive $100K in Renaissance scholarship funds to support students with financial need,” a Beyoncé rep told the Detroit Free Press.

Opened in 2011 as Astute Artistry, the Detroit School for Digital Technology now offers programs including digital marketing, business information, and medical assistance. “The school’s goal is to provide an affordable, hands-on learning experience that makes students feel more comfortable and less overwhelmed,” according to Metro Times.

Beyoncé first performed in Detroit in a 2018 concert at Ford Field. This is her second time performing in Detroit. Before the Renaissance World Tour earlier this year, she pledged to donate $1 million in scholarships to colleges along her tour route.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the scholarship award in Michigan is not the singer’s first charitable act there. In 2016, she donated $82,000 to water relief efforts in Flint. It included money contributed by fans during her Formation World Tour. Also, appropriated $1,000 each for 14 Detroit area high school sophomores with college plans.

Before the tour, Beyoncé was projected to earn over two billion dollars, as per Forbes. The U.S. Business magazine based the figures on the assumptions of the number of fans buying tickets, and a high average ticket price of $700 dollars.

The Renaissance tour is named after Beyonce’s seventh studio album, which was released in 2022. It is the singer’s first solo tour since 2016 and according to Forbes, it could gross up to 2.4 billion dollars by the time the tour ends in September. The US Magazine says its estimates could be due to fans’ heightened interest in attending her shows.
