Namibian Hip-Hop Group Makes Jagermeister #BackTheArtist Top 20

Namibian group Black Vulcanite has been making a splash all across South Africa with the growing hit “Big Egos,” featuring Richard Burton. The group, considered to be Namibia’s most-famous band, is up to be the second to win Jagermeister’s #BackTheArtist campaign and snag production time in studio with South Africa’s leading producer Justin de Nobrega, who is behind Jack Parow, Die Antwoord, and Toya Delazy.

Making it to this round is no small feat, as the competition includes song entries from pretty much anyone in South Africa who thinks they can make it big if given the shot. Round 2 of the competition will search for the biggest track – be it hard-core, deep house, rock ‘n’ roll, pop, kwaito, or trance, which makes it all the more difficult for the artists with a skin in the game. Therefore, there is no easy margin of comparison, and it will all boil down to the      
 “hit factor,” which is the special magic that makes a song a juggernaut.

Manager of Black Vulcanite, Leneave Hansen, says making it in to this competition just goes to show how hard the group has been working. “Black Vulcanite has been doing very well in South Africa and being nominated for this competition is proof of that. All these accolades are great as they are recognition of the group’s work,” he said. More than 400 entrants took their chances in the competition and it is now moving to the final round.

Beyond vying for the opportunity to take their craft to the next level. The group is trying its hands in the fashion industry with a line of T-shirts that push the envelope. Namibia is becoming known as a hotspot for Africa’s Hipsters and Black Vulcanite is no exception to the eclectic soul-sicians coming out of this southern African gem.
