A Black woman said for five years now, she has been applying to be a flight attendant at Delta Airlines with no success. Things changed recently when she pretended to be a White woman, Regina De’Chabert said in a video she posted to TikTok on Sunday.
De’Chabert claimed she repeatedly applied for the role at Delta without ever being called back for a position. So she decided to submit a new application as a White woman and was finally invited to a second-round interview.
“Applying to Delta for a flight attendant role for 5 years & get denied. Applys as a white woman, finally received a 2nd interview email,” De’Chabert said in her video caption on TikTok.
Over 200,000 TikTok users viewed her video. Some agreed with her, sharing what they also went through while applying for jobs as a Black American. Others felt De’Chabert was exaggerating.
She responded in a follow-up video: “What I will say is that I am so happy for the other Black women in this field who have gotten call backs, jobs, etc…. Just because you got the job, doesn’t negate my experience. Just because you got the job doesn’t mean my experiences with this airline, and with JetBlue, and other airlines in New York is invalid.”
A spokesperson for Delta told The Independent: “Delta does not tolerate discrimination in any form in all aspects of our business, and these allegations run counter to our deeply-held values of respecting and honoring diversity.”
This is not the first time a Black person is claiming to have been denied a job because of the color of their skin. Some even say that they are ignored because of their names.
A recent report shows that in spite of an improved labor market, African Americans still cannot get well-paying jobs that offer stability with quality benefits.
