At age eight, Blue Ivy Carter has many successes under her belt that many can only dream about. The daughter of music moguls Beyonce and Jay-Z is the voice behind the children’s audiobook for “Hair Love,” based on Matthew A. Cherry’s Oscar-winning short film.
The director and writer, Cherry, shared the news in a tweet with a graphic and a clip from the film that samples about four minutes of the lengthy audiobook.
In the 10 seconds excerpt of the recording, Blue Ivy says, “Dreamscape Presents: Hair Love by Matthew A Cherry. Narrated by Blue Ivy Carter.”
Hair Love is a short, animated documentary about black hair that follows an African-American father learning his way around his daughter’s hair while his wife is being treated for cancer in the hospital.
It was put together by former NFL player-turned-writer Cherry and producer Karen Rupert Toliver.
Black people for so long hid behind weaves as the beauty standard accepted and portrayed in magazines were of straight silky hair of Europeans.
At the 2020 Academy Awards, during his acceptance speech, Cherry said he wrote Hair Love “because… we wanted to normalize Black hair.” He then used the rest of his acceptance speech to urge that states pass the CROWN Act.
The CROWN Act bans discrimination against natural hair and natural hairstyles, or traits historically associated with ethnicity.
Little Carter already has good role models at home because for her age, she was the youngest recipient of a BET award for her feature on Queen B’s celebrated anecdote to women of color, ‘Brown Skin Girl’.
She also has on her awards stands an NAACP Image Award for the same song by Beyonce, her mother, WizKid and Saint Jhn.
The little diva, who occasionally gives us style icons wannabe a run for our money, sometimes outshines her mother on the red carpet with her eclectic looks.
She has made a cameo in Beyoncé’s visual album “Black Is King,” which debuted on Disney Plus in July.
Her audiobook on Hair Love could put her in the works to earning a Grammy nomination for spoken word. Slow down Blue Ivy, the world isn’t ready for all your awesomeness, but then again you cannot be a Carter and live an average life. We Stan!
