For leaving the prime minister and other passengers stranded due to lack of fuel for its plane, the board of Mozambique’s LAM Airlines has been relieved of their post.
The prime minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, was on Friday made to use an air force plane for his official trip from the capital, Maputo, to the northern Niassa province, news site BBC reports.
The state-owned airline has, for the past three days, been going through some financial challenges.
Fuel suppliers have ultimately refused to deliver fuel until payment was made.
The airline has since apologized to its customers about Friday’s incident and has said that it was working to resume flights after the government intervened.
Management has further asked customers to call to get more information about their flights.
Last year, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) removed Mozambican airlines from the European Union blacklist.
The airline had been banned since 2011 from flying to Europe over what the EU said was their failure to improve on their safety oversight system.
