Brazil Plans to Boost Ghana’s Agriculture with $96 million

Madam Irene Vida Gala, Brazil’s Ambassador to Ghana, has announced her government’s plan to secure a $96 million loan facility to boost small-scale and rural farming in Ghana.

According to Madam Gala, the facility will go towards purchasing agricultural equipment that will be distributed to farmers. This will hopefully lead to increased food production.

This announcement was made by Madame Gala when she was approached by a team from the Food and Agricultural Show (FAGRO) who invited her to participate in their 2012 show. For the first time, fifteen Brazilian companies will be participating in the FAGRO 2012.

Madame Gala said, “Our main aim is to advertise the Brazilian companies that will be participating and help them understand that there are many possibilities and opportunities of doing business in Ghana and to understand the level of Ghana’s agric sector and build a sound and strong business relationship in Ghana.”

She also claimed that Ghana’s agriculture sector would see a huge positive change in the next 30 years if efforts were focused on investing in technology.

“We are again excited about the Business-to-Business (B2B) session that will be on-going at the FAGRO grounds between Brazilian companies and Ghanaian companies and use the platform to encourage individuals and companies who will be interested in the B2B sessions to contact the FAGRO secretariat,” she added.
