Cameroon (Face2FaceAfrica) Since 2005, the incumbent government of Cameroon has been organizing sporting activities to celebrate “National Physical Education Day.’’ The event, which is held every year, falls within the United Nations General Assembly’s Proclamation in 2005 of “The International Physical Education Year,’’ with the intention of warning the public about the dangers related to inactivity. The events took place Sunday.

In Cameroon, National Physical Education Day is an official event of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and activities were celebrated under the theme “Physical Education: A Recommended Lifestyle for Attaining Emergence.”
According to a message from the minister of sports and physical education, Mr. Ferdinand Adoum Garoua, ‘’By dedicating a whole day to physical education as advocated by the United Nations in 2005, Cameroon’s intention is to sensitize our compatriots on the need to practice physical and sports activities on a daily basis for their physical and psychological well-being.’’
Several activities took place all over the republic, including sports walks, covering several kilometers that ended with the award of certificates to all those who were part of the festivities.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), physical inactivity causes the death of about 1.9 million people around the world each year. Still, a further study shows that regular physical activity for 30 minutes, five times a week, reduces health risks at the rate of 50 percent.
