Authorities in Florida said they have initiated a search for a 26-year-old Carnival Cruise passenger who was reported missing after the ship returned to Miami. Per PEOPLE, Kevin McGrath was on board a Carnival Cruise ship that sailed to Bimini, Bahamas, from PortMiami during the Labor Day holiday weekend. He was, however, not on board when the ship returned to Florida on Monday.
A detective with the Miami-Dade Police Department told the news outlet that “McGrath was last seen by his brother at approximately 2 a.m. at his cabin.” The law enforcement official also said the missing 26-year-old “was supposed to meet the family for breakfast prior to disembarking from the ship but he never arrived” as they had arranged.
Efforts by ship staff and security to locate him also proved futile after his family was unable to find him. The Coast Guard was ultimately contacted in the wake of his disappearance, and Miami police also responded to investigate, NBC News reported.
“The guest was not detected by surveillance systems, including U.S. Customs and Border Patrol during the debarkation process,” Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement. The Coast Guard also said its officers are “actively searching near the Port of Miami and along the South Florida shore” after being made aware of his disappearance.
