Monroe, LA is the most violent city in America by the numbers. While Detroit has more crimes than Monroe, 45,000 to 6,000, Monroe’s population is smaller. So much so that some’s risk of being a victim of violent crime is a staggering 1-in-8.
Theadora Estis, a real estate agent who worked for the city of Monroe, told local news that the statistics reflect general perceptions of the neighborhood and has even turned potential property owners away.
“Most of the people who come to me, a lot of them are African-American’s, and they are looking for a better way, a better life, an escape (from the crime),” Estis said.
“A lot of people choose to commute in,” Estis explained.
