Last week, Face2Face Africa reported on a group of women and children who were abducted from the village of Doron Bag, after a Boko Haram attack.

As news reports developed, it was later confirmed that 85 villagers had been taken from the village during a raid, where the militant group reportedly killed 26 villagers.

On Sunday, however, Chadian troops were able to intercept the convoy of buses “during a routine security check.”

An unnamed Nigerian official explained, “The convoy being led by six Boko Haram gunmen was stopped on the Chadian part of the border along Lake Chad for routine checks and the huge number of people in the convoy raised suspicion.”

After questioning the six leaders of the convoy independently, the Chadian military soon realized that the suspects were providing contradictory information.

Consequently, Chadian authorities were able to retrieve 65 men and 22 women, although 30 villagers are said to remain with Boko Haram.
