Check out the first exclusive photos of Coming 2 America

Leading up to the premiere of Coming 2 America, the first exclusive photos of the sequel, which is inarguably one of the most highly anticipated movies in 2021, have been released.

As Face2Face Africa previously reported, Coming 2 America features some popular Black actors and celebrities joining Eddie Murphy (now King Akeem) and the other original cast members reprising their roles. The new exclusive photos include standalone images of Eddie Murphy, James Earl Jones (King Jaffe Joffer) and Garcelle Beauvais (the royal rose bearer in Coming to America). The other photos include King Akeem with his best friend and personal aide, Semmi (Arsenio Hall), King Akeem with his wife Queen Lisa (Shari Headley), and a barbershop shop scene.

In the first installment of the movie, Akeem (Eddie Murphy) leaves the Kingdom of Zamunda to America, where he seeks a wife. He is accompanied by his aide Semmi (Arsenio Hall). In the second installment, Akeem has just found out that he left a son in America and travels back to Queens, NYC, in search of the next heir of the Kingdom of Zamunda.

In a recent interview with People, James Earl Jones, who has featured in countless movies, said playing King Jaffe Joffer “remains one of the most enjoyable and iconic characters I’ve had the pleasure of playing.”

“With his regal and commanding presence as the ruler of Zamunda, I reveled at bringing his presence to life for Coming to America in 1988. And now, over 30 years later, I am honored to reprise my role once again in the sequel, Coming 2 America,” he continued, adding that the sequel couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I feel it’s the perfect time for everyone to return to Zamunda!” the 89-year-old said. “This powerful cast, both reuniting the original and welcoming the newcomers, represent the essence of Black Royalty. Working with Eddie Murphy has been an indelible experience and his dedication and passion for this project is truly inspiring. It means the world to me to be a part of this beloved franchise.”

Murphy also agreed, saying: “This is the perfect time to return to Zamunda because it’s been a while since we’ve had a great comedy that everybody can enjoy. Zamunda is a very funny place, and the world needs that right now.”

The award-winning actor also shared his excitement about the sequel and praised the new cast in the movie.

“What I’m most excited about the audience seeing is how amazing this movie is,” Murphy, 59, said. “We have incredible new cast members like Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, Jermaine Fowler, KiKi Layne and my own daughter, Bella Murphy, among others, who are all so funny and really brought their A-game. It’s just a great picture and I’m excited to have audiences see it.”
