A crashed aircraft in Guyana was found with a dead man and a large quantity of cocaine this week, according to officials. The police also located another aircraft which had crash-landed with a crew of three men, leaving one of them with a fractured arm and bruises on the face.
The three crewmen were detained for questioning after nothing incriminating was found on them, Kaieteur News reported. They told the police that they were heading to Suriname when their plane developed a technical fault, forcing them to crash land at 9 Miles Airstrip, Issano, Middle Mazaruni River.
Of the three crewmen, two identified themselves as pilots and the other identified himself as a technician. The police said one of the pilots is a 38-year-old of Boa Vista, Estado Roraima, Brazil, while the other is a 29-year-old of Tumeremo, Estado Bolivar, Venezuela. The technician, who is also from Brazil, is said to be 35 years old.
According to them, a second aircraft traveling with them had crashed in the jungle. Police mounted a search and found the wreckage of a blue and white Beechcraft some distance away from the airstrip.
“Among the wreckage was the body of an unidentified man and bags containing large quantities of a substance believed to be cocaine,” according to Kaieteur News.
The police have since secured the crash site while the other aircraft remains at the airstrip under police guard.
