Nigerian Vocalist In Running for Top Prize On ‘Norway’s Got Talent’

Nigerian-born vocalist Daniel Appyday has emerged as a top contender on the talent reality show “Norkse Talenter” or “Norway’s Got Talent,” one of the biggest TV shows in Norway.

Appyday has made it past the first four of five stages of the show, according to InformationNG. He is now one of only 36 contestants remaining out of the thousands that auditioned for the competition in the beginning.

“Norkse Talenter” is a spin-off of the popular “Britains’s Got Talent” reality show franchise. The winner of this year’s edition of the show goes home with about $50,000 in prize money and a recording contract from Sony Music.

Appyday’s next performance on the show is scheduled for May 12th, when the semi-finals kick-off.

Born Daniel Ernest Emeka Okafor, Appyday earned his degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos. His talents include acting, modeling, and, of course, singing.

Appyday left Nigeria in 2013 and moved to Norway, Europe, to pursue his life goals in a different environment. According to his website, though, he had to put his music on hold for a few years to get acquainted with his new environment in Europe.

A source close to the vocalist told reporters that Appyday’s music has managed to resonate well with his listeners in Norway and other parts of Europe, adding that Appyday’s brand of music has crossed boundaries and earned him the limelight that he never quite enjoyed in Nigeria.

“When he started music, some fellow Nigerians in Norway said he was wasting his time, insisting that he did not stand a chance in Europe with his Nigerian Afrobeat and dancehall music. They believed that White folks will not appreciate his style.

“However, White folks found his African music addictive because of the beat, energy, and his swagger. His first single in 2016 “Okro Soup” got him a lot of attention in Norway and Sweden. Norwegians love food a lot, especially soups from other countries. They got interested in Appyday’s okro soup and wanted to know what kind of soup it was. They even tagged his sound happy music in a bid to connect with him,” the source said.

Appyday, who loves to work with children, says he plans to launch a foundation for Motherless and abandoned babies in Nigeria if he wins the talent show.

He says his dreams of giving homeless children a good home and quality education will position them for life-changing opportunities.
