Inflation may not be generally felt by many Americans when they walk into a shopping mall or buy gas. But, for those looking for love, it has become a deciding factor whether to go on dates or cut back on dating life.
The concept of wooing the opposite sex is under review on the table of many Americans now. Love a year ago may not cost a thing, but, lovebirds say it now has a price tag. According to a survey by financial research firm The Balance, over one in every five Americans said inflation has affected their dating life.
Forty-four percent of the respondents said they have cut back on the frequency of dates due to the cost. One in three dates said they have shifted from meeting the opposite sex physically to meeting them virtually because of rising costs.
Engaging in free activities instead of grabbing a cocktail is high on the menu list of those actively looking for love. Forty percent of those surveyed said they were more likely to take a stroll in the park than go on dates.
Americans are zipping their pockets because of inflation. A staggering 60% of the residents said they spend less money on going to the movies, sporting events and concerts.
The new norm in the dating culture of Americans is for lovers to split the cost or freeze it to attend to priority needs.
U.S. dating site OkCupid in its survey reported that its patrons are cutting their budget for dating. It’s not only the love lives of first-time lovers and lovebirds that are impacted by inflation but, single parents looking for love.
Single parents are foregoing the opportunity to go on dates because they must spend on means and shelter, as reported by data firm Morning Consult.
If you are hoping to find love, remember that there is a price tag on it because of rising inflation.
