In a happy turn of events, Drake’s mother and father reunited on Canadian soil for the first time in 15 years. The trio seemed glad about the homecoming as the popular Canadian rapper shared a photo of his parents, Sandi and Dennis Graham, with the caption, “FIRST TIME IN OVER 15 YEARS. THEY LET THE OG BACK INTO CANADA THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED US OUT.”
Although his parents have been getting together, Hiphopdx pointed out that they last met in Canada 15 years ago. According to the outlet, Drake addressed the issue of his father’s denial of entry into his home country in the song “Look What You’ve Done” (2011).
The song includes the phrase, “And my father living in Memphis now, he can’t come this way/ Over some minor charges and child support that just wasn’t paid.”
The family now appears to have overcome the hurdles.
US Weekly noted that Drake’s father Dennis Graham was often absent from his life due to run-ins with the law. But during an interview on “Nick Cannon‘s “Close Conversations” radio show in 2019, Dennis Graham said “I have always been with Drake. I talk to him, if not every day, every other day. And we really got into a deep conversation about that. I said, ‘Drake, why are you saying all this stuff about me, man? Like, this is not cool.’ And he goes, ‘Dad, it sells records.’ I said, ‘OK, cool. Talk about me.’”
Drake later said that he was “hurt” by his father claiming he made up his lyrics for clout. “My father will say anything to anyone that’s willing to listen to him. It’s sad when family gets like this but what can we really do? That’s the people we are stuck with,” the rapper wrote on an IG Story. “Every bar I ever spit was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept.”
Dennis Graham, 69, hasn’t hesitated to defend Drake, and he recently responded to those he called out as “old haters fucking with my son.”
