Fans have finally been able to see the fairytale moment Toya Johnson got engaged to her boyfriend Robert “Red” Rushing and they couldn’t be happier. The two started dating in 2017 and announced they were engaged in late 2019 but fans only got to see their proposal ceremony on Monday when it was aired on the season finale of VH1’s T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle.
Reality TV star Johnson, who is also the ex-wife of rapper Lil Wayne, shared details of the engagement on Instagram after it was aired on the show.
“So romantic,” Johnson captioned her Instagram post while sharing two photos of herself and Rushing standing on top of a building wearing black. The pavement of the building read, “Toya, Will you marry me?” in the color red.
The second photo shows the newly-engaged couple on the building, with Rushing taking the leap and asking for Johnson’s hand in marriage.
Before this romantic moment, Rushing took Johnson on a magical helicopter ride through Atlanta before asking her to look down. There, on top of the building where they were about to land, were the words, “will you marry me,” painted in red.
Johnson, who thought they were just out on a date night, broke down in tears realizing that it was actually a proposal. “Oh my God. Y’all tricked me,” Johnson said while in the helicopter.
“These last three years been amazing. I love the person you’ve become. Caring for me. Loving me,” Rushing said to her while on the rooftop. “I love the mother you became. Sister. Cousin. Everything. I want you to be my wife. Toya, will you marry me?”
“Yes,” she replied and hugged him tightly.
Johnson and Rushing share a daughter named Reign. Johnson also shares a daughter with ex-husband Lil Wayne called Reginae Carter. The 21-year-old couldn’t hide her joy over her mom’s engagement on Instagram.
“Crying again !! I’m so happy for you guys!,” she wrote. “This is just the beginning! My mom always told me people come into your life, and you guys are suppose to water each other and grow and that’s exactly what you guys did ! Keep black love alive.”
