Many fans of U.S. rapper Kanye West also known as Ye are highly anticipating his first tweet after his account was reactivated Saturday. His Twitter account was suspended eight months ago over offensive tweets and for breaching Twitter’s community rules prohibiting incidents of violence.
Ye’s earlier post which landed him in trouble was about a series of tweets, including a picture of a swastika merged with the Star of David. The artist’s Instagram account was suspended for a day in March 2022 for posts showing racial slurs regarding comedian Trevor Noah. In October, his Twitter and Instagram accounts were frozen for anti-Semitic material he posted. Adidas, his brand partner, also severed ties with him, as part of its stance on incitement against violence and promotion of anti-Semitism sentiments, according to the BBC.
West’s account indicates that the last time he made a post on Twitter, now called X, was December 1, 2022. His account has 31.5 million followers, but, it would be ineligible for monetization and ads following the reactivation. The account has also been given a gold tick, a sign that classifies official business accounts.
Twitter or its owner, Elon Musk, has yet to comment on the reactivation of Ye’s account on Saturday. Another individual who suffered a similar fate is former U.S. President Donald Trump. His account was reactivated last November after a public poll showed 51.8% of people were in support of his return. He is also yet to make a post after his reinstatement. Anti-semitism groups have expressed their disgust over the reinstatement of the rapper’s Twitter account.
