Aalad-Amo site (Eritrea)

In 2016 palaeontologists from an Italian university and the National Museum of Eritrea found footprints believed to have been left behind approximately 800,000 years ago by a human ancestor, Homo erectus, in the sandy sediments on the shore of a prehistoric lake at the Aalad-Amo site in eastern Eritrea. The footprints suggest movement from the north to the south and were also tracks from an animal suspected to be an antelope, suggesting perhaps these ancestors were on a hunting expedition. Reports say these may be the oldest-ever fossilized Homo erectus footprints.
