Oil and fat soaps
Ancient Egyptians were very concerned about hygiene and always employed interesting techniques to keep clean. They made a paste from fats boiled with ashes which they used to keep their bodies and clothes clean. Also, they combined olive oil, which was already used for cooking and rendered useless, with hot water and ash as soap. A paste of ash or clay mixed with oil and sand in jugs filled with water and salts were used to purify the skin.
Cleopatra was known to have her unique soap made from wine or beer mixed with sugar vegetable oil and choice extracts and oils made into a paste to clean herself, amongst other beauty potions. This beer soap is made to date in Egypt and known to have a lot of benefits to the skin.
