George Edward Alphonse
The 61-year-old actor, poet, and cultural activist also called “Fish” grew up in the Pavee/Faux-a-Chaux area. Originally wanting to become a priest, he was inspired to change professions when he became acquainted with Monsignor Patrick “Paba” Anthony; he was dedicated to research and cultural work. It was then Alphonse knew that advocating for others that were less fortunate was one of his callings. He added actor and poet to his repertoire by producing one-man shows such as “Grandpa Goes To Town” and “Man Story.” Alphonse wouldn’t have it any other way, he says: “God gave me a gift and I use it to the best of my ability. But I will continue to do it as long as I can and have life. It’s hard work but when you’ve been blessed with a gift, nothing should stop you from doing it. I really appreciate the arts because it’s made me a better person.”
