The little known island of St. Vincent & Grenadines was home to Africans and Europeans in the 16th century. It gained independence on this day in 1979 from the British, despite being territories of the French and Spanish masters.

Located in the Lesser Antilles island arc, its 150 sq mi territory consists mainly of Saint Vincent and the northern two-thirds of the Grenadines and a chain of other 32 smaller islands.

With a population of 109, 897, this exotic island is known for its clean waters.

As we commemorate its independence, Face2Face Africa brings you five places you must visit whenever you get to the island.
