Five Ways to Make Yourself More Employable in 2016

Are you tired of sending unsuccessful job applications? If so, it’s about time you asked yourself this question: What am I doing wrong? Learning the best practices for a job seeker will improve your chances of landing your dream job so that you can begin enjoying life. Take a look at these five ways to make yourself more employable in 2016.

Develop the Right Attitude

It’s normal to feel rejected when you apply for a job vacancy and you don’t get a response, but you shouldn’t dwell on it or feel like you are not good enough to land your dream job. Don’t peg your self-worth on your career prospects because more often than not, they tend to be limited and can lead to negativity. Develop the right attitude and keep reassuring yourself that you have what it takes. Believe in yourself!

Make Your CV Impressive

Never underestimate the magic in first impressions. How you present your CV or resume determines the kind of impression the employer will have of you. Your resume is your one and only shot to impress a potential employer and stand out from hundreds, if not thousands, of other applicants. A CV should have all the necessary details about you, be precise and be presented in an eye-catching layout (but not too extreme or hard to read). The content of your resume should be relevant to the job you are applying for right from the first word.

Be Flexible

In this fast-changing world, you can’t afford to be complacent or else you will spend your lifetime chasing after elusive jobs. Broaden your career horizons by acquiring new skills and reassessing the situation as time changes. Volunteering is a great way to acquire new skills and enhance your portfolio. The trick is to be a well-rounded person so that you can fit in different career environments.

Broaden Your Social Networks

Developing networks within the industry of your interest means you will be the first person to know when new job openings come up. You will also have a list of people to use as your referees who are relevant to the job you are applying for. Nowadays it’s quite easy to develop networks thanks to social media. You can even create your own blog and start establishing yourself as an expert in the industry.

Work on Your Teamwork Skills

Most, if not all, employers want to hire someone who can work in a team. You have to prove to your potential employer that you can cooperate and contribute to a team. As a matter of fact, you do not have to be employed to develop these skills. Even in your daily life, you have to be someone who is tolerant, cooperative, assertive and someone who shares responsibilities.

Foster these practices and you will be surprised at how many employers will want to hire you. All the best in your next job!
