Georgia mom outraged after teacher combs out her daughter’s $150 locs

Micaela Varlack is extremely upset that her daughter’s hair was changed without her consent by a teacher at Childcare Network on Warm Springs Road. According to the Columbus mother, who paid $150 for her daughter’s locs, she and her daughter Londyn chose to begin her daughter’s hair lock journey in April.

Varlack told WTVM, “I went and got her hair washed …It was detangled, conditioned, the locs were started and blow dried. The whole nine.”

To her horror, three weeks later, her daughter left school wearing something different from the one she had paid for. The teacher had rebraided her 4-year-old daughter’s hair after combing out the locs.

She stated, “Monday, on May the 6th, I go to pick her up from the daycare. There’s a little child who looks like my child with her hair braided.”

“Why would you comb out 32 locs out of a child’s hair, to sit down and braid them, part them …You didn’t call me, and her literal response was ‘I just didn’t,” she lamented.

The mother claimed that because her daughter might have an irritated scalp, she had to take her to Urgent Care. She asked for the money she paid for Londyn’s hair to be refunded by the school as well. She claimed to have been denied.

The school, on the other hand, gave the outlet a statement that read, “On Monday, May 6, a currently enrolled child asked a teacher to braid her hair. After speaking with her mother at pick-up, our staff immediately offered to reimburse the family. Please know that the physical and mental well-being of the children and families we care for is of utmost importance to us, and we are sorry that this was upsetting to the family as it was not our intent.”
