April 8, 2014- UPDATE: There is no Ebola case in Ghana as the test results came back negative. The young girl did not pass away from the virus.
According to My Joy Online, “…after samples of blood from the deceased person were analysed, the Noguchi Memorial Institute confirmed the girl did not die from the viral infection.”
April 7, 2014- No Ebola Case in Ghana. The test results came back negative. The young girl did not pass away from the virus.
The first suspected case of Ebola in Ghana has been reported. A 12-year-old girl has been sent to Noguchi Memorial Institute for testing after she exhibited symptoms of bleeding and fever.
According to Ghanaweb, “Doctors have met over the patient and taken emergency steps to ensure she is quarantined. The results of the test will be known in a couple of days.”
The deadly virus has spread across several West African countries to include Liberia and Guinea with a rising death toll over 90. Mali and Sierra Leone have reported suspected cases that have not been confirmed as of yet.
There is no vaccine or cure for the deadly virus so each country is taking protective measures such as quarantine, flight restrictions and closing borders.
Ebola is spread through close personal contact with people who are infected and kills between 25% and 90% of victims.
