Ramadan is not the only reason Kenyans will stay away from food and water in these coming days.
The deported politician and lawyer Miguna Miguna has asked his supporters to go on a hunger strike as a way of protesting the ‘continued violation of his rights and those of millions of Kenyans.’
Miguna, who had been planning to come back to the country today after he was deported twice for allegedly committing treason, postponed his return because the immigration officials refused to give him a valid passport to facilitate his travels.
In a statement announcing the postponement of his return, he asked the supporters of his National Revolutionary Movement of Kenya (NRMKe) to protest the tyranny and impunity in the country.
“Hold processions, sit-ins, street protests, hunger strikes and use all media at your disposals against the escalating tyranny and the culture of impunity,” he said.
The Immigration Permanent Secretary retired Major General Gordon Kihalangwa had declined the request by a rights group to give Miguna a passport as he had not applied for one.
Miguna is yet to announce his new return date.
