GUBA 2012 Post Press Release

Ex-footballer Fabrice Muamba did the traditional Ghanaian Azonto dance on stage in support of the highly anticipated GUBA Awards 2012 held on Saturday November 10th at the Park Plaza Riverside Hotel.

It was a night of glitz, glamour, and splendour. The third annual award exceeded expectations with a star studded guest list, spectacular entertainment, and delectable traditional food.

Among the guests were GUBA patrons Hugh Quarshie (Holby City) and GB sprinter Jeanette Kwakye, London 2012 Olympian star Christine Ohurugu, Norwich City manager Chris Hughton, Ghana Black stars Coach Kwesi Appiah and general captain John Mensah.

His Excellency Mr Peter Jones, British High Commissioner in Ghana, Labour MP Diane Abbott, Sway and Nancy Dell’Olio amongst others. 

Hosted by ITN news presenter Charlene White and Henry Bonsu of Colourful Radio, the euphoric atmosphere was filled with true Ghanaian pride and excitement and supported by business leaders like such as Roland Agambire, Sam Ankrah, Sam Jonah, and Dr Mike Adebuga

The event was also supported by members of the entertainment fraternity, media and corporate sectors.  Individuals/organisations were recognised and awarded for their remarkable work and achievements in the Ghanaian community.

The Trinity Baptist Church Youth choir kicked off the night’s performances which saw the chart topping artiste Jesse Appiah taking the stage to pay tribute to the GUBA Foundation in an epic performance. Other performers included the night’s Best Emerging Music Act winner, Mista Silva.

The event’s sponsors were all in attendance to present their awards. Western Union awarded a cheque for £1,000 pounds to the Best Charity Campaign winners, WAM Campaign (What about Me).

CEO and founder of GUBA Dentaa, in her opening speech expressed gratitude for the support the event has received over the years.  She also encouraged guests to become sponsors and advocates for GUBA in order to keep the organisation alive.

She said: “We are like stamps on an envelope; we'll stick with it until we reach our destination." She pointed out that the GUBA awards is a platform for motivating young people and giving them positive role models. Dentaa also appealed for funds to support the GUBA foundation that aims to create autism awareness amongst the Ghanaian community.
