Teresa Meade has joined a tall list of Black entrepreneurs playing pioneering roles in the world of business. According to Black News, she has made history by becoming the first Black woman to own a coffee brand in Elkridge, Maryland.
Meade is the founder and CEO of Jacq & Joe’s Coffee, a brand she was inspired to found in July 2020 following the death of her mother and the need to channel her energy into something else. In her moment of grief, she came up with the name Jacq & Joe’s Coffee.
The name of her coffee brand is a combination of the names of her late mother and deceased grandfather. Meade said her goal for venturing into the coffee space was to promote positivity through coffee one cup at a time.
The choice of coffee for a business is particularly interesting for Meade as she has no background in coffee brand ownership. Currently living in Maryland, Meade is planning to include coffee sample-gift packages into her brand. Her brand is mostly online.
“She also plans to host coffee tastings and pop-up shops locally and nationally until she finds a location for her first brick and mortar,” Black News writes.
