How Krystal Covington, an introvert, built one of the largest women’s networking communities in Denver

Krystal Covington is the founder of the largest privately held women’s organization in Colorado called Women Of Denver. She reportedly has over 2000 women in her community group.

Prior to founding the biggest women’s networking group, she worked in a Fortune 500 company, which was her dream job at the time. She moved to Denver to work in the internal communications department of this Fortune 500 company, according to Forbes.

Reserved at the time, Covington initially struggled to fit in because she couldn’t find people like her to connect with. However, her drive to meet other inspirational women leaders motivated her to be not only innovative but outgoing as well.

This led her to start a blog where she interviewed women about leadership. She would later turn her bog into an event with the support of her husband.

“At my first event, five people showed up,” she told Forbes. “Then I started hosting the event once a month. My whole goal for the event was so women could have meaningful conversations. Every conversation was really deep and transformational. It evolved from there. The essential reason I did it was to develop friendships.”

Following the growth of her events, she mulled ways to make a positive impact, leading to the launch of a magazine that tied to her mission of Women of Denver.

“The magazine was always intended to be a unique voice for the city and women. I wanted something local. I wanted to connect with my community and do something that supported my own creativity. We highlight the journey of women and the different types of women who are here in our community that we need to meet, celebrate and can learn from.”

She eventually quit her job and began consulting to enable her to focus on building Women of Denver. This was the time she was building her business plan. According to her, leaving her job allowed her to make her own schedule and focus on ways to scale her organization.

Aside from Women of Denver, Covington also owns Bella Virtu Organics, which provides clean organic products for toxic-free women and families. She acquired the company when it was bringing in very little profit.

Today, the company has tripled its profit by increasing units per order thanks to email marketing and search engine optimization tactics.
