Ice Cube unveils his own marijuana brand inspired by his iconic ’90s movie ‘Friday’

Rapper Ice Cube is now a marijuana entrepreneur following the launch of his own brand called Fryday Kush.

According to him, his marijuana brand name was inspired by his iconic movie ‘Friday’. “Fryday Kush is made with that good stuff,” the Compton rapper announced during the launch of his brand on Instagram.

Fryday Kush, which Ice Cube partnered up with the company Caviar Gold to produce, is available in four states: California, Arizona, Nevada, and Oklahoma. His strain contains 46.2 percent THC and 10.78 percent CBD.

“I partnered with Caviar Gold, so you know Fryday Kush is the best,” Ice Cube noted on Instagram. “Caviar Gold is the original infused & only patented cannabis brand on the market.”

Ice Cube now joins celebrities like Jay-Z, Mike Tyson and Lil Wayne who have invested in the marijuana industry. Jay-Z, in particular, made waves last year when he made a number of moves in the marijuana space. He launched his own cannabis brand called Monogram and was also appointed as the chief visionary officer of Subversive Capital Acquisition Corp, a special-purpose company that acquired cannabis firms in California.

The cannabis industry in the U.S is estimated to pump up to $130 billion on an annual basis into the U.S. economy by 2024, according to Marijuana Business Factbook.

Marijuana Business Factbook estimates legal cannabis sales increasing from $38 billion-$46 billion in 2019 to $106 billion-$130 billion by 2024 – a 181% increase. And according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the $130 billion figure is similar to the 2019 gross domestic product of Nebraska’s $129 billion.

In 2019, Ice Cube made a joint effort with ex-basketball star and entrepreneur Magic Johnson to purchase 21 California regional sports networks (RSNs) from Walt Disney Co. However, the deal did not materialize. His company Big3 and Malone’s Liberty Media were outbid by Sinclair Broadcast Group which tabled a $10 billion offer.

Ice Cube’s Big3, which comprises of former basketball players competing against each other in a 3-on-3 twelve-team league, was founded in 2017. The rapper canceled the 2020 season due to COVID-19.
