Dr Hawa Abdi, one of Somalia’s female obstetrician and lawyers, set up a clinic in 1983 at her family’s home in Shebelle. The clinic known as the Rural Health Development Organisation (RHDO) started off as a one-room clinic where women across the region would visit for obstetrics services. With this clinic, women and children were able to receive care and emergency treatment that saved their lives.

Zeal Akaraiwai, a financial consultant in his 40s, has intervened by footing the bills of stranded patients in selected hospitals in Nigeria. He secretly settles the bills, as he does not disclose to patients that their bills are about to be paid; he does not want to be thanked and would not even want to stay in touch with any patient he helps to release.
