Jay-Z surpasses Quincy Jones to become the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time

Jay-Z wrote his name in the history books on Tuesday after he surpassed legendary producer and composer Quincy Jones to become the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time, Variety reported.

Born Shawn Corey Carter, Jay-Z received three nods for the 2022 Grammy Awards – racking up his total nominations in the prestigious awards event to 83. The trailblazing rapper and business mogul was previously tied with Jones at 80 nominations.

The Dirt Off Your Shoulder rapper received the recent nods for his guest appearances with Kanye West on his DONDA album as well as with the late DMX. The 51-year-old so far has 23 Grammy Awards to his name.

Beyonce and Paul McCartney also previously shared the second spot, but the latter surpassed the R&B singer as well as Jones after he received two nominations for next year’s awards show. The former Beatles band member now solely occupies the second position with 81 nominations. Beyonce and Jones did not receive any nominations for the awards.

Jay-Z received his first three Grammy nods in 1999. And though his Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life eventually won Best Rap Album, Jay-Z boycotted the event to protest DMX‘s omission from the nominee list despite releasing two number one albums that year, Variety reported.

Jay-Z also won three Grammy awards in 2009, 2010, and 2012 respectively – making it his highest-winning Grammy years. And though his most nominated year came in 2017 after his 4:44 album received 8 nods, he walked away with 0 awards. The rapper subsequently called the Grammys out on APESHIT – the track off his 2018 collaborative Everything Is Love album with his wife Beyonce.
