John Legend opens up about his cheating history and how Chrissy Teigen changed him

It appears baby faced and innocent-looking John Legend was a naughty boy growing up and wasn’t that faithful to his exes.

Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast, the She Don’t Have To Know singer spilled the beans on his cheating history, what drove him to be uncommitted to his former love interests and how his wife, Chrissy Teigen, made him hang his “jersey” as a “playa.”

The singer made the revelations when he and co-host, Dax Shepard, opened up on their histories of cheating.

“Yes, I did have a history of [cheating]. Definitely in my 20’s,” he admitted. “I think what happened for me, you go through a lot of your life in your teens and I was younger than everybody in high school and college, and so I just didn’t get a lot of girls. When I started to get that attention, I loved it.”

He added: “I escaped ‘technically cheating’ by keeping my relationship ill-defined. But it was really cheating. I definitely was dishonest and selfish… It was happening before I was famous.”

The 41-year-old EGOT winner, who was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2019, also said he took advantage of his fame as his music career shot up. The singer, however, said he realized his cheating shenanigans weren’t worth it when he got into a relationship with Teigen.

“At a certain point, you just realize you’re happier being honest. You’re happier being faithful and being in love with one person,” he said. “At a certain point, I just decided that person was Chrissy. I decided I wasn’t gonna mess with somebody else anymore.”

The pair, who met in 2007 when the model featured in his Stereo music video, tied the knot in 2013 and share a son and daughter together. Though they “hooked up” the first night they met, the All of Me singer said they fell in love shortly after, despite how loose their relationship was at the beginning.

“We’ve talked about it before, but we had sex the first night and hit it off,” he said. “We were both seeing other people at the time. There was kind of a looseness at the very beginning, but we fell in love not long after that.

According to Legend, living a life void of unfaithfulness is way better.

“It’s so much easier, your whole life is lighter,” he said. “Your mind is freer, everything is better.”

He also joked about not daring to cheat on his wife out of fear of retribution from her fans.

“I feel like it almost makes it less likely that I would do anything to f*ck it up. Chrissy has 12 million Twitter followers. If I were to do anything, it would be career suicide,” he said. “It would be terrible. It just gives you another reason to not f*ck it up.”
