JooMah Creates Bold Approach To Africa’s Access To Talent

For the past eighteen months, Kwaku Akoi and his team have been busy at work on their mission to improve what access to jobs and talent in Africa means.

Their goal is simple: create the fastest means possible for African employers to identify the best candidates in an applicant pool. And they are doing this through a web platform that sources data from a job seeker’s profile to instantly determine which candidates are the closest fit to an employer’s hiring needs.

Although there are a number of online job boards in Ghana, the process of sorting through candidate applications is still very manual for most employers. The job market in Ghana appears to be slow and difficult to navigate for both employers and prospective employees.

A big part of the problem, Kwaku explains, is that Ghanaian employers believe that there aren’t enough skilled people for them to hire. By making it very easy and fast for employers to identify their ideal candidates, JooMah hopes to restore faith in the skills of the Ghanaian job seeker, thus, encourage employers to hire more.

But JooMah is not built for employers only. The site exists to allow job seekers to create and download a nicely styled professional resume for free, join a mailing list to receive top quality career tips via email, mobile app or SMS, and get automatically recommended to employers looking for candidates.

JooMah was successfully piloted in Accra at the end of 2014 on a limited scale. The platform exists as a web site (joomah.com / emp.joomah.com) with SMS integration and mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. The team is looking to scale their operation in Ghana this year before rolling out into other African markets starting next year.

They want you to participate in bringing about this change on the continent. Go to https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/joomah-transforming-africa-s-talent-landscape to contribute to their crowd funding campaign and share this article to spread the word!
