Letitia Wright shares update on ‘Black Panther 3’

Though the hype for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is yet to die down, it seems like the creators of the movie franchise have already set the ground running for part 3. In an interview with Variety during the Official Digital Pre-Show at the Golden Globes, Letitia Wright shared some details on the third installment of the highly-successful Marvel superhero movie series.

Wright, who plays Shuri in the first two installments of the Black Panther movie series, told the news outlet that she thinks the motion for part 3 has been set after she was asked when the project was going to be approved.

“I think it’s already in the works,” Wright, 29, responded. “You know, we just had a terrific two years of bringing it out and everybody coming together to support it. We need a little bit of a break, we need to regroup and [director] Ryan [Coogler] needs to get back into the lab, so it’s going to take a little while, but we’re really excited for you guys to see that.”

And when she was asked to provide more details, the award-winning actress said, “I always try to do positive words and positive thinking, and I believe that good words manifest, so I’m manifesting a ‘Black Panther 3,’ why not?”

Wright’s comments come after Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and Wakanda Forever Director Ryan Coogler touched on the possibility of a Black Panther 3 in an interview with the news outlet last year. In that interview, Coogler revealed he “definitively” did not know what he was “doing next as a writer and director.”

But Feige said he and Coogler had been having discussions about a third Black Panther installment with “ideas pitched back and forth.” And when he was asked if he had ever thought about producing a Black Panther film with someone other than Coogler, Feige appeared to object and made mention of Chadwick Boseman’s death.

“I go back to what I said when we decided to make ‘Wakanda Forever’ after losing Chad,” Feige said. “This mythology and this ensemble and these characters deserve to continue and will continue after all of us are gone, I hope, and will continue forever in movies the way it has in comics for 50-plus years.”

Feige also stated that doing a project without Coogler  “wouldn’t be the preference.” The first two installments of the Black Panther movie series have been box office successes. In early December, Face2Face Africa reported that Wakanda Forever had topped the box office rankings for the fourth consecutive weekend.

The movie, which hit the cinemas in November, has so far grossed over $800 million worldwide.
