Major development in Tupac murder case as police search house in relation to killing

Las Vegas police on Monday searched a home in Henderson, Nevada, in connection with the unsolved murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. The home that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department searched is less than 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip where Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996 at the age of 25.

“LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation,” Las Vegas police said in a statement. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

Shakur grew up to become one of the most influential rappers of all time through his music, his portrayal in the media and the government’s treatment of him. The hip-hop legend’s death at just 25 years old has been a subject of discussion and controversy. Many still mourn the legendary artist years after his death. Investigation into his killing has also been going on for nearly 30 years. 

No one has ever been arrested or charged for the shooting largely because witnesses were not willing to work with officials. Detectives are now working on the cold case again. Shakur, who sold more than 75 million records worldwide, posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last month in honor of his contributions to the arts and fight for equality.

With hits including “Changes,” “California Love,” and “Dear Mama”, the rapper was recently ranked as the fourth-best rapper of all time. The city council in Oakland, California also unanimously voted in May to rename a stretch of MacArthur Boulevard between Grand Avenue and Van Buren Avenue, where Shakur once lived, as “Tupac Shakur Way.”
