The contraceptive has been tested in numerous clinical trials in India, and has proven to be 100 percent effective. Researchers in the U.S. are considering the drug and will begin testing it.
How does RISUG work? It’s is an injection that, when given to men, forms a gel along the vas deferens. The vas deferens transports sperm from the testis to the penis during ejaculation. The gel can last for up to 15 years. Unlike vasectomies, the process is completely reversible by giving a second shot that dissolves the gel.
RISUG is currently being tested for safety and efficacy in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration must approve the gel before it can be made available to the public.
