Authorities in Nashville said a 24-year-old man who met up with a woman at a city park ended up raping her while she fed her baby. According to WKRN, the May 25 incident occurred at Shelby Park after the victim and Ryean Floyd arranged to meet at the location.
The arrest affidavit also stated that the suspect and the victim knew each other, but the victim told authorities they had not been in contact for over a year. After hanging out at the park for a while, the victim said she decided to return home with her child as it was getting late.
She also stated that she put her child in her car’s backseat and opted to feed him before driving back home. However, while in the process of feeding her child, Floyd came from behind and lifted her skirt before raping her, the arrest warrant stated, per WSMV.
In an audio recording of the five-minute sexual assault, the victim is heard pleading with Floyd to stop as her baby also cries. She later received medical attention after she was taken to a hospital.
In an interview with the news outlet, a woman who takes her son to that location said that attack did not really surprise her as questionable people usually come to the park. “I always lock my doors and stay alert,” she said. “Monitor who is around me. I don’t let people get too close. Like 10 feet and then I start looking behind me and start thinking of contingency plans should they do anything that’s in my bubble.”
Other people also said that though visiting the park is not too risky, they prefer to go there in groups and during the day. Some also make sure their family members are aware of their location for security reasons.
“I’ve come out here several times and always felt very safe,” Grayson Perkins said. “This whole community feels very safe. You see kids walking to school, you see women jogging at night. I think it is a travesty what happened.”
Floyd was later arrested in connection with the incident and charged with aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping. His bond was set at $65,000, and his court appearance is set for June 12.
