A 24-year-old man wanted for probation violation in Georgia was ultimately arrested in Arkansas after he applied for a job with the Monticello Police Department. According to WSB-TV, Justin C. Carter on Monday sent an application seeking employment as a Monticello police officer.
The fugitive was said to be hiding in South Carolina when he sent the application via email. Authorities said he made his way to Arkansas the following day to confirm details for a physical test.
But upon arrival, Monticello police noticed “discrepancies in his physical appearance from his background check”, Fox News reported. Police ultimately determined authorities in Georgia had issued a nationwide warrant for Carter’s arrest after conducting further checks.
Carter later met police to undergo his fitness test at the Monticello High School track. He was ultimately arrested after he finished the test. The 24-year-old is set to be transported back to Georgia.
In 2019, a serial rapist who was wanted by Georgia police since 2015 was finally arrested after he attempted to join their force. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Kenneth Bowen III joined the Clayton County Police Department academy in June 2018 but was fired within a few months for lying to supervisors after arriving several hours late for training on September 12.
Though Bowen wasn’t with the academy for long, the information he provided was very crucial and vital to his eventual arrest. According to Clayton County Police Chief Kevin Roberts at a press conference, Bowen was behind seven rape incidents and a sexual battery case after forensic evidence linked him to the crimes.
“Had he not attempted to join ranks in the Clayton County Police Department, it is questionable as to when we would have apprehended him,” Roberts said.
