Most businesses in the world today continue to be dominated by men as women CEOs do not make up a huge portion of bosses who have risen to the top. In the U.S., Silicon Valley, home to many start-ups and global technology companies, has men running affairs – mostly white and Asian men.
This leaves little space for black women who make up about 13 per cent of the female U.S. population and only four per cent of the estimated 2,200 women-led startups.
The average amount of funding a black female entrepreneur gets is $36,000. On the other hand, those generally founded by white men, raise $1.3 million, according to the CNN.
Despite the hostilities black women face in entrepreneurship, especially when it comes to fundraising, some of them have broken barriers and been able to raise as much as $1 million in outside capital.
