Twelve-year-old Viemens Nana Amisssah Bamfo has become the youngest student at Ghana’s premier university after gaining admission to study Public Administration.
Bamfo, who was home-taught by his father, was the youngest among over 2,900 students who recently got enrolled to study various courses at the University of Ghana.
After he completed his lower primary education in Akyem-Oda in the Eastern region of Ghana, Bamfo was reportedly home-schooled by his father until he sat for the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as a private candidate and passed.
Apparently, young Bamfo is not the only child of his family who has been home-schooled by his father. His elder brother, Edwin Bamfo graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as an Environmental Scientist at the age of 20.
Describing home-school as a tough decision, Robert Bamfo – the father – told Citi TV he decided to teach his children at home due to pecuniary difficulties.
Young Bamfo is the toast of social media in the West African country having defied the required age of 18 to gain admission at the university.
The 12-year-old, who is taking a long-distance course in Public Administration in the prestigious University of Ghana delivered the ‘Expectations’ at the 2019 Matriculation Ceremony.
Bamfo already knows what he wants to become after school. As someone taking a lot of inspiration from the president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo and former US president, Barack Obama, he says he wants to step in the former’s shoes when he turns 40.
