Meghan and Prince Harry expected to break records as they purchase screen rights for bestselling novel

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and Prince Harry, have been tipped to possibly break box office records with a tragic romantic film that bears semblance to the turbulence they have endured in their love life and that of Princess Diana.

They have bought the screen rights to the popular novel by Carley Fortune, “Meet Me at the Lake”, which they hope to translate into a film for Netflix, the New York Post reported.

The couples are noted for their ability to draw millions of eyeballs to what they do and entertainment and movie critics believe they are likely to break records if they carry out their intention. The novel appeared on the New York Times best sellers list for six weeks and is believed to have been bought by Meghan and Prince Harry for an estimated $4 million.

The story revolves around the love journey of a woman in her thirties who copes with her mother’s tragic death in a car accident. The plot of “Meet Me at the Lake” shares similarities with Prince Harry’s personal life, as his own mother, Princess Diana, tragically passed away in a car crash in 1997.

The book’s exploration of themes such as childhood trauma, mental health challenges, and post-natal depression resonated deeply with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, leading to its selection as their first adaptation under their reported $100 million deal with Netflix.

Publicity coach Mayah Riaz anticipates that the film could generate substantial buzz and potentially reach record-breaking numbers at the box office. While Riaz believes it may not surpass the box office success of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie, which earned $1 billion in global ticket sales, she envisions it as a strong contender for a second-place position.

This project comes after the couple’s departure from a $20 million deal with Spotify, which yielded only one produced project, the “Archetypes” podcast. Despite featuring notable guests like Mindy Kaling and Mariah Carey, the podcast was not renewed for a second season. Markle’s attempts to secure Taylor Swift as a guest were unsuccessful.

Critics maintain strongly that Meghan and Prince Harry’s collaboration with Netflix to adapt “Meet Me at the Lake” from a bestselling novel to a film holds great promise, with movie lovers and their followers expecting it to garner significant attention and possibly achieve remarkable success at the box office.
