Minneapolis man named Bible fatally shoots transgender woman after sexual act, police say

Authorities in Minneapolis said a 25-year-old man informed investigators that he fatally shot a transgender woman after a sexual act because he felt “suspicious” of the victim. Per the Star Tribune, the suspect, identified as Damarean Kaylon Bible, initially denied any involvement in the shooting death of Savannah Ryan Williams, 38, after he was arrested.

He, however, later admitted to shooting the victim after authorities showed him video evidence. Authorities found Williams’ body on the morning of November 29, and that was hours after she was shot.

Bible told investigators he encountered Williams on Lake Street, adding that the victim was sitting on a bus shelter at the time. He also said he and Williams made their way to a courtyard after the victim asked him if he wanted sex. Bible said he opened fire on Williams after the sexual act because he started to feel “suspicious” of the victim.

Bible also spoke with his dad while in jail and admitted to the crime. And though he also expressed remorse and said he wasn’t God, Bible claimed he “had to do it.” The 25-year-old, who was later arrested at his apartment, has since been charged with second-degree murder.

He also faces a different charge of first-degree aggravated robbery over a November 5 incident. Bible in that incident allegedly drew a gun and ordered a victim to empty his pockets, the Star Tribune reported. The victim stopped the police and reported what had happened in the wake of the incident.
